It is absolutely possible! As long as you are determined, consistent, and figure out what you need to get into that school, you can do it.

Yes, it's definitely possible to transfer from BMCC to Columbia, maybe even preferable, as your credits from a CUNY school would be easily transferable. My advice would be to maintain a good GPA and make sure to be as detailed as possible on your application essay. I would recommend going to the writing center for help, there are Columbia students at BMCC writing center that are very helpful.

What other things can I do to help me get into Columbia? Are extracurriculars important in school and outside of school?

It is possible to transfer to Columbia University. There are alumni in my CSC Honors class that went to BMCC and are now currently studying at Columbia University. If they can do it, you can do it as long as you put in the work and effort. - Camilo

The school of General Studies, where you’d likely be transferring to, focuses on non-traditional students. You should have 1 year gap between your studies where you’ve done professional work. When you’re applying, you will need to write about these experiences.

Other than this, a good GPA and good recommendation letters from professors
